Clara (Carrie) Busby received her Ph.D. in English Literature at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She received her M.A. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her B.A. from the University of Montevallo.
Her research explores sonic theory, and she studies sound in works of Romantic poetry. In particular, she reads William Wordsworth's poetry through this lens. Wordsworth composed literary doctrine with a prominent interest in the possibilities of sound for his poetry and its aesthetic effects. In her work, she provides a nuanced transdisciplinary framework for analyzing the intuitive perception of possible acoustic events in poetry and for understanding the historical and present-day performances of poetry as linguistic recitations capable of transfusing physiological affect. |

“It is here that Wordsworth would sit to compose his verse. He also passed through The Summer House to the far terrace where he would recite his verse aloud while pacing to and fro.”
